| At the "Little White Schoolhouse" in Ripon where on February 28, 1854 citizens of the area
met and decided to form a new political party in response
to the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act which they believed
would result in the expansion of slavery to the Western
Territories. The name they gave to their new party was
Republican. |
