| At the graves of Joseph Hewes & George Ross, signers of the Declaration of Independence, in the Christ Church Burial Grounds in Philadelphia. Ross was the uncle of Betsy Ross who, acording to legend, sewed the first American Flag. Because of his experience with shipping, Joseph Hewes was made Chairman of the committee
that helped establish the US Navy. In December 1775, he appointed John Paul Jones a Navy officer, Jones would become one of America’s greatest naval heroes. |
