A plaque in front of 123 Lexington Ave. in Mannhattan marking this as the site where early on the morning of September 20, 1881, a few hours
after President Garfield's death, Judge John R. Brady administered the oath of office to
Chester A. Arhtur. Arthur also passed away here in November 1886 and his body was laid to rest at the Rural Cemetery in Albany. |
