| The Gus Grissom Memorial in Mitchell. The monument to Grissom is on the site of the elementary school he attended. The monument lists Grissom's many achievements from fighter pilot to Mercury & Gemini Astronaut. Grissom along with astronauts Ed White & Roger Chaffee were killed during an Apollo 1 launch test January 27, 1967. A fire started in the sealed capsule and the 3 men could not get out. |
